Its Never Too Late to Get Fit Says Jacksonville FL Couple, Linda and Vince Ferrigno

Hilton Head Island, SC (PRWEB) December 13, 2013

Linda and Vince Ferrigno of Jacksonville, FL, first visited Hilton Head Health (H3) weight loss resort in May 2013 as a way to jump-start their new healthy lifestyle. Little did they know that in seven short months they would lose weight, improve their blood work and develop better fitness.

Hilton Head Health changed our lives. We have smaller waistlines, lower cholesterol, triglycerides, fasting glucose, blood pressure, BMI and body fat percentages, says Linda. On the Ferrignos first stay they visited for only 3 days, but on their two following visits they stayed a full week. On their most recent stay they even brought along their three adult daughters. It was the best vacation ever, says Linda.

The change is so much deeper than all of these wonderful numbers, commented Linda. In the classes the Ferrignos learned about proper nutrition and the psychology behind healthy living. We are preparing delicious, healthy food at home and no one would ever label any of it diet food, says Linda.

I ran my first race in over 20 years, declared Linda. The active life is becoming our life, she continued. The Ferrignos have walked more than a million steps and Vince, whos bad knee had hampered him in the past, has found exercise, that he can now do consistently. For the first time in our lives, we are part of our own team, says Linda.

Top Los Angeles Employment Attorney Rodney Mesriani Applauds the Settlement Award of EEOC against Pace Solano Over Disability Discrimination Lawsuit

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) December 13, 2013

Expert Los Angeles, California employment and labor law attorney, Rodney Mesriani, Esq., is in high spirits, following the recent settlement award obtained by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) against Pace Solano.

According to court documents (EEOC v. Pace Solano, with Civil Action No. CV 12-01823 MCE-DAD), Pace Solano recently agreed to pay $ 130,000.00 and implement preventive measures to settle a disability discrimination case initiated by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) on October 17, 2013. The successful settlement agreement was also published by EEOC in its official website (http://www.eeoc.gov/eeoc/newsroom/release/10-17-13b.cfm).

In the above case, court records revealed that Pace Solano refused to hire Holly because of her disability, despite the fact that Holly successfully completed all tests and was cleared to do the job by Pace Solano’s own occupational health provider.

Best Los Angeles employment discrimination lawyer, Rodney Mesriani, cautions all employees to be wary against disability discrimination in the work place. Tell tale signs of disability discrimination include being harassed, demoted or treated differently because of the employee’s disabled physical, emotional or psychological state. Mr. Mesriani adds that, “Many people think that disability discrimination is committed only against an employee on account of his current disabled state. On the contrary, disability discrimination also happens if an employee is harassed or demoted due to his previous disabled condition. Even if the employee is no longer disabled but the employer thinks that the employee is still disabled and the employer discriminates or harasses the employee because of this perceived disability, then the employer is still guilty of disability discrimination in the work place.”

“The recent successful settlement by EEOC against Pace Solano goes to show that the system still works in protecting every employee in the work place against all employment problems and labor law issues suffered by our work force. Hence, any employee who feels that he or she has been discriminated against or harassed in the workplace should not fear their erring employer and should report the injustice immediately to the proper authorities”, stressed Mr. Mesriani of Top Employment Attorneys in Los Angeles California.

Top Employment Attorneys’ expert employment discrimination claims attorneys in Los Angeles are well known for their swift resolution of every employment discrimination case in Los Angeles and throughout California, to include: sexual discrimination, racial discrimination, sexual orientation discrimination, disability discrimination, national origin discrimination and religious discrimination. Breakthrough CEO Named One of 50 Global Leaders Helping to Stop Sexual Violence Against Children

NEW YORK (PRWEB) December 13, 2013

Mallika Dutt, president, founder and CEO of global human rights group Breakthrough, has been named one of the top 50 global leaders helping to stop sexual violence against children by Safe. Safe is a new digital magazine produced by Together for Girls, a global public-private partnership dedicated to ending violence against children, with a focus on sexual violence against girls.

Safe magazine acknowledged Dutt as a leading innovator in human rights, multimedia, and culture change, citing her organizations Bell Bajao (Ring the Bell), a multimedia and community education campaign initiated in India and now worldwide that calls upon on men and boys to prevent domestic violence.

We need to change the culture that enables violence against girls and women all over the world. That means working together, with boys and men, to transform attitudes and actions and make dignity, equality, and respect the norm for all, said Dutt. Together we can trigger the global tipping point that will make violence against women and girls unacceptable and build a world where all of us can thrive.

Dutts honor follows Breakthroughs release of groundbreaking research in India, where 47 percent of women are married by age 18 with little or no say in the matter. The report shares research gathered over two years in the states of Bihar and Jharkhand, which have among the highest incidence of early marriage in India, and offers new insights into the underlying motivators among communities, as well as possible entry points for lasting change.

Across the globe, the practice of early marriage defined for girls as marriage before the legal age of 18 is prevalent and ongoing and represents an early start to a life of human rights abuses for girls and women. Breakthrough has been at the forefront of engaging men to create lasting culture change in the effort to end violence against women.

While the economic and cultural drivers of early marriage are well-documented, Breakthroughs study revealed an additional important motivator: early marriage, and the norms and beliefs that drive it, are deeply rooted in fears surrounding girls sexuality. In particular, fathers marry off daughters because they believe theyre keeping them safe from premarital sex and pregnancy, sexual harassment and assault, or even forbidden platonic intermingling between the sexes, which can bring shame and dishonor to a girls family. But early marriage is anything but safe, as girls married early are often cut off from educational opportunities and often suffer psychological trauma, domestic violence, high rates of mortality due to premature and continuous childbearing, and high rates of sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

These findings helped Dutt and Breakthrough create an awareness and action campaign, Nation Against Early Marriage, which positions men and young men especially fathers and fathers-to-be as part of the solution.

An innovative and effective leader, Dutt has reinvented the delivery of social and behavioral change through a potent mix of multimedia campaigns, cutting-edge pop culture, smart social media and authentic on-the-ground community engagement. Breakthroughs unique formula has earned accolades in the global human rights community, the media and entertainment industry, and the technology community.

Others named among the top 50 leaders by Safe include Michelle Bachelet, Eve Ensler, Jane Fonda, Nicholas Kristof, and her Majesty Queen Noor of Jordan.

Sexual violence thrives behind the twin veils of silence and darkness, said Regan Hofmann, editor-in-chief of Safe magazine. We must acknowledge that sexual violence happens daily, all around us and be willing to talk plainly about it. By illuminating the truththat one in three women and one in six men suffer from sexual violence Safe will hopefully amplify the global conversation we must have together to end the horror.

Too many girls are being denied their basic human rights to safety, education, opportunity and dignity because of practices like early marriage, Dutt said. Men and boys are partners in preventing this violence. We know that most men are not violent theyre just silent, and that allows the culture of violence to continue. At Breakthrough, were doing all we can to involve boys and men and to help them show others that girls are not risks or burdens, but people with intrinsic worth and rights.

Breakthrough (http://www.breakthrough.tv) is a global human rights organization that uses the power of arts, media, pop culture, and community mobilization to inspire people to take bold action for dignity, equality, and justice. We work through centers in India and the U.S. to end violence and discrimination against women worldwide and promote human rights for all.

Unique Innovations and the Latest Tech Trends from Russia

Moscow, Russia (PRWEB) December 13, 2013

Improving Our Lives: TechCrunch Moscow 2013

Between the 8th and the 9th of December 2013, the 4th annual TechCrunch Moscow conference was showcasing brand new and the hottest Russian tech start-ups under the theme of Innovation Detox. The TechCrunch Moscow is organized by Digital October and Kite Ventures, in partnership with TechCrunch.

39 Russian tech start-up stars competed against each other pitching on stage to attract media and investors attention, and secure the title of the winner of Startup Battle. There were additional 19 start-ups, which also represented their businesses at the Startup Alley 2.0.

Amongst 58 start-ups, there were certainly some interesting ideas and tech trends worth paying attention to as we are approaching the end of 2013. One thing in common shared by all start-ups was that they all did strive to to tackle everyday problems to find elegant solutions that will, ultimately, improve their customers’ life easier. Quoting Innovation Detox TechCrunch Moscow conference mission: the prime purpose of innovation is addressing the fundamental human needs more efficiently to increase the quality of life. So, what can Russian startups offer to improve life any further, in this age of rapid technology breakthroughs?

For people living in the Northern hemisphere, MediaGloves provide a solution against frostbitten fingers. The startup came up with a special stainless liquid, which can be applied at the tips of any gloves, to add the functionality of navigating the smartphone without taking the gloves off.

Another startup, Obereg, designed a smart bracelet that measures heart rate and body temperature, detects sudden falls, and sends this information straight to any number of smartphones. This makes taking care of elderly family members much easier.

There were educational start-ups, too. KidErudite, for example, offers to embrace mobile education with specially designed and psychologists approved mobile apps. With these apps, starting from the age of 3, children can develop into true digital natives.

WayRay presented the statistics that 15% of car crashes happen due to drivers getting distracted while looking away from the road glancing at their smartphones or GPS devices. With WayRays augmented reality technology a road map is projected straight onto the cars window, and driving becomes a more natural process.

Another life improving idea. Everyone is familiar with an unpleasant feeling or loosing the keys or the wallet, and trying hopelessly to locate them. With Tag and Find technology this problem can remain in the past. A small neat sticker can be applied to a valuable item, and it will be easily detected when it comes within 5 meters radius from the paired smartphone.

Amongst 39 pitching Russian tech start-ups there were also multitudes of great innovative business ideas. Ranging from the mobile blog app, which allows you to blog effortlessly on the go without being restricted by 140 characters (Telller) to computer game swapping platform with a geo-location feature (Obmenigrami). Some of the prominent trends were highlighted by new online financial services, which aimed at simplifying financial operations as well as online platform providers, which helped to connect businesses and customers in a more efficient way providing one-stop solution for both parties.

Another key trend was a strong focus on mobile products and services. During 2012 the mobile access to the internet increased by 33% in Russia. That may explain the reason why more than 50% of TechCrunch Moscow start-ups provided mobile apps for their services.

Interestingly enough, even the conference co-organizer, Digital October, grasped the opportunity to launch their own two startup projects at TechCrunch Moscow 2013. First one is a TED-like digital library of educational materials, DOTV. The second start-up is a New Professions Lab. This lab provides access to online courses specializing in professional development within the fields of future proof careers. Hence you can educate yourself in your own free time about such professions as an Online Course Producer, a Growth Hacker or a Big Data Specialist.

The Champions of TechCrunch Moscow 2013

After several intense hours of 3-minute startup pitches, the judges panel selected 5 start-ups, and the popular voting determined one more startup that moved on to compete the next day, in the finale of TechCrunch Moscow.

Amongst the finalists there was Obmenigrami, an online platform, which allows gamers to swap or sell their used games or accessories for consoles. The geo-location feature allows one to see, where the nearby gamers are and what they got on offer. This makes it easier to arrange a meet up and swap or sell games.

Another finalist was Looky a start-up offering a portable TV guide, which can be accessed from any internet supporting device. The app covers 200 channels in 100 different regions. Apart from providing information on the favorite programs and actors, it also allows one to set reminders in order not to miss your favorite show. Looky also embraces Web 2.0 features as it allows its customers to share and discuss programs with their friends.

Gbooking, another finalist, offers a smart way for local businesses can sell their services. Gbooking is a tool that simplifies a booking process as the times and availability of specialists is displayed in the real time. It allows a local business to set smarter pricing strategy and offer discounts during non-busy hours. Gbooking widget certainly has a potential of becoming irreplaceable, once introduced into local businesses websites, discount aggregators and search engine listings.

Aviashopper is a one stop solution for frequent plane travelers. Its a mobile guide covering all major international airports of the world. The Aviashopper mobile app shows how to get to the airport, where to grab a bite in an airport, or where the next check-in desk is.

However, the top two places were taken by the finalists – Medesk and DreamRoomer.

Medesk is a promising cloud healthcare platform. It builds an ecosystem for private healthcare market, which brings all the major stakeholder to one place, e.g. the clinics, patience, CRO, insurance companies and medical device vendors. To the date, Medesk platform already has more than 10,000 patients registering their health records across Russia.

The winner of TechCrunch Moscow 2013 was the DreamRoomer. This is an online service, which helps landlords to find tenants of their dreams. Landlords and tenants register their profiles. Landlords upload the pictures and descriptions of their apartments. While the tenants create their own profiles, with pictures and descriptions of themselves and the type of renting arrangements they are looking for. Once the landlord finds a perfect tenant, they can get in touch and exchange their contact details.

One may get an idea that TechCrunch Moscow 2013 was truly overloaded with bright business ideas and that for the investors it must have been pretty tough to select only one single winner. But at TechCrunch Moscow one doesnt have to be a winner in order to be approached by an investor, everybody gets an equal chance.

What did the battle of the Russian tech start-ups reveal at TechCrunch Moscow 2013?

The moderators of TechCrunch Moscow Mike Butcher, editor at large of TechCrunch.com and Edward Shenderovich, managing partner of Kite Ventures at the end of the Demo Day noted that with every year the performance of Russian tech start-ups continues to improve significantly.

Russian tech startup representatives become more experienced at pitching and have a deeper understanding of the role of their product, not just the technology behind it. Hence the event organizers state that the Russian tech ecosystem ke

Top tips to attract luck on Friday 13th from leading psychologist

(PRWEB UK) 13 December 2013

Picture caption: Leading psychologist Dr Matthew Smith, of Buckinghamshire New University.

Top tips to attract luck on Friday 13th from leading psychologist.

Are you dreading Friday 13th, fearing that this unluckiest of days will bring you nothing but trouble? Fear not, leading psychologist and luck doctor from Buckinghamshire New University, Dr Matthew Smith, presents his Top Five Tips to attract good luck on Friday 13th (or indeed any day!)…

1 Embrace ‘luck’

So many things in life are uncertain, unexpected and unplanned. Most days (including Friday 13th) will involve events like this, big or small. The challenge (indeed, the fun) is to embrace these events and acknowledge that much of what happens to us is down to luck, good and bad.

2 Expect good luck

If you tend to expect good luck rather than bad, you may find that you’re actually likely to have more positive experiences. This is due to what psychologists call a ‘self-fulfilling prophecy’ in that your belief that things will work out in your favour influences how you interact with the world, which in turn affects the things that happen to you. This might at first seem at odds with Tip 1, but there are many things we might put down to luck, which we can influence. Combining tips 1 and 2 in the right way can be quite powerful, especially on a day like Friday 13th, when others are expecting the worst.

3 Be open to opportunity

There are opportunities around us all the time, we just don’t pay attention to them. A relaxed and open attitude to what’s around you can be enough to spot these opportunities and recognise them as such. It’s within these opportunities that many ‘good luck’ experiences can lie. And don’t forget your own role in creating opportunities … striking up conversations and taking yourself out of your comfort zone are simple but important ways of making opportunities, and making your own luck.

4 Go with the flow

The idea of ‘going with the flow’ often gets a bad press, but knowing which way the wind is blowing and letting yourself to be carried along with the breeze is actually a great way to let luck into your life. It requires an element of trust that you get what you need and that unplanned events, if you let them, they can be the source of the exciting surprises.

5 Dealing with bad luck

OK, let’s be honest… This is what you’re worried about when it comes to Friday 13th isn’t it? In some ways it brings us back to Tip 1, because even though you may now be better equipped to attract and create more good luck into your life each day, there’s no getting away from the fact that bad things do happen. They are a part of life. But you can still use simple psychology to deal with these effectively. For example, one way is to remember that no matter what happens, it could be worse, so keep things in perspective. Psychologists refer to this idea of comparing what has happened to what might have happened as ‘counterfactual thinking’, and it can be a powerful tool in spotting the good luck in the bad.

American Singer’s Singaporean Cyber Stalker Convicted in Landmark International Case

San Francisco, California (PRWEB) December 13, 2013

38-year-old Singaporean Colin Mak Yew Loong plead guilty in Singapore Subordinate Court Case NRIC NO: S7524695A, Wednesday, December 4th, 2013, to 31 counts of criminal intimidation of American singer Leandra Ramm from 2005 to 201.

Leandra Ramm claims her life was almost destroyed by a man she had never met. The court found Mak threatened to kill her, her family, her friends even sending pictures of the gun he swore he would use to do it.

Lack of comprehensive international legislation to counter cross-border stalking meant that Leandra had to survive six years of psychological terrorism before the authorities brought the perpetrator to justice as stated in The Examiner.

In her book, Stalking a Diva co-authored by privacy attorney D. Rocca , and in an Affidavit filed with the court, Ms. Ramm says her nightmare began in 2005 when Mak contacted her pretending to be someone who could help her with her music career. According to the Affidavit Ms. Ramm stated, I got offered a spot at the Singapore Music Festival and jumped at the opportunity. But it wasnt real [the offer and the festival]. The offer came from a man named Colin [Mak], a wanted criminal in Singapore.

The Singapore Subordinate Court revealed how Mak tortured her through emails culminating in sending death threats via emails and voice messages. According to her book, Stalking a Diva, and an affidavit filed with the Singapore Court he also tracked her to a cruise ship where she was working and sent messages and emails pretending to be on board and preparing to imminently attack her.

According to a Statement filed with the Singapore Court Ms. Ramm says she worked with cyber forensics expert A.J. Fardella and the United States Secret Service to track her perpetrator to Singapore and put pressure on the authorities there to arrest Mak.

“A.J. worked tirelessly on my case. Because of A.J., I was able to win the case and move on with my life,” said Ramm. A.J. is my hero, she said at a recent presentation on cybercrime at http: Contra Costa College.

Singapore’s landmark verdict against Mak is the first international cyberstalking prosecution ever.

It is the first one I have heard of and should give victims the courage to come forward. It just goes to show these cowardly people who carry out this kind of behavior that it is a criminal offense and that you cannot hide from justice, says Rhory Robertson, a Partner in Collyer Bristow, a London law firm specializing in cyberstalking cases.

The Court also found that besides harassing Ms. Ramm, Mak also admitted to 11 other offenses, including intentional harassment and criminal trespass.

In court proceedings, in his submissions, prosecutor Alan Hu said this is an aggravated case involving numerous charges. He stressed that the offenses were committed over a long period of time and asked for a global sentence of two to four years jail.

Under Singapore Law, for criminal intimidation, Mak can be jailed up to seven years and fined on each count. Maks sentencing is scheduled for December 13th in the Singapore Subordinate Court.

Ms. Ramms shocking story has already garnered attention from international press outlets such as The Economist, and will soon be the subject of an Investigation Discovery series Obsession: Dark Desires produced by October Films and scheduled to air in January, 2014.
